Just across the border with Victoria lies the beautiful South Australian city of Mount Gambier. Located in an area which was once volcanic, the city has some interesting geological features.
Large lakes, sink holes and craters are dotted around the landscape and have become attractive features within the area. The Umpherston sink hole is home to a sunken garden and there is also a cave garden in another crater in the center of the city.
Mount Gambier is also home to the blue lake which changes colour from dull grey to bright blue depending on the season.
We visited the area on ANZAC day, Australias World War One rememberance day which is also a public holiday. We were lucky enough to catch the ANZAC parade before the rain started falling.
From Mount Gambier we travelled north to Coorong National Park. The coastal wetland area is home to huge salt lakes that shimmer in hues of pink and blue.
